TCPPA

The TCPPA http://www.tcppa.org/ Print competition was held last night at Hennepin Technical College in Eden Prairie. I entered three prints and one of them was awarded a merit!! Very exciting. It is a very hard experience to have to listen to 5 experienced photographers who's work I admire dissect my work. For the most part I already knew what their concerns would be. As you attend print competitions if you pay attention you can learn what is and is not acceptable with competition print. Now I need to figure out how to avoid those same mistakes as I move forward with my future portraits.

Book Club

I shoot a few pictures for a local writer, Maggie Shea, who just had an article published in November / December 2007 issue of Mothering magazine. They did not run any of my pictures, but it is a fun article to read about a local mom and daughters book club that has been on going for over 10 years. Check out the article and here are a few of my favorite shots for the session.

Halloween

So October was pretty crazy. I have been trying to get caught up in my intern class. Between interning and my classes I have not had any time to post a new entry. I have 3 or 4 photo shoots to post plus keeping up with my new sessions. Amy went as Bob the Builder for her first Halloween. The first piece of candy she got to eat was her choice of a tootsie roll. She asks about the candy " is this one chalk a let?"very sweet. Our good friend and Auntie to Amy Julie came over for the Pumpkin carving.

Bob, Chris, and Jackson

Jackson's 2nd birthday is in two weeks so I invited Bob and Chris to come in for a quick family portrait. We cannot believe how big jackson is getting and how grown up he looks! Today was also my first day working as an intern at VIP studio in Waconia. I toured the studio and grounds with Mark Kiefer and was able to assist him on a senior shoot. I also met his wife Krish, and their two children Sage and Skye. Both Mark and Krish are amazing photographers and I am honored to be able to intern with them.

Akqwana

Here are some more outdoor shots. I was able to photograph this wonderful woman Akqwana. She is as sweet as she is attractive! I am hoping to get her mother in for a mother daughter portrait.

Emily

I had another shoot today. My classmate Emily was kind enough to model for me.

Kelly and Terry

I got to take some outdoor portraits on Sunday. We shot at Parkers Lake Park in Plymouth. It was a beautiful day, but it was very windy which made it a little difficult to get the lighting in the exact position. It made my heart glad when Kelly asked if we could convert any of these pictures to Black and White. It seems to me that the general public has forgotten how beautiful and timeless a black and white portrait can be.

The Big news around the Geller household is that Amy has gotten herself a new toothbrush, a "loud one" just like mommy. Her new electric toothbrush features her favorite cartoon star Dora!. We had a great seminar at school yesterday. The guest speaker was Julie Klassmeyer. Julie is an award winning photographer who specializes in baby and children fine art portraiture. The Vikings suffered another tough lose this weekend in a game they should of won to the Detroit Lions. Amy was shouting go Vikes with us, and go gophers, which she learned at her daycare. She described the action as "the boy ran and fell down." Here are some photos from my fist shooting assignment for Portraiture II staring Jim Jackson and our assistant Jenna.

Meeting with Ann

I had my first meeting with Ann Marsden. We discussed may things, the ethics of photography, lighting techniques, software, business etc.. We also talked about how Richard Avedon and Diane Arbus have influenced portrait photography. Here is a nice quote from Ann, "find beauty in things as they are" This picture is of my fellow student Erica. What excites me about this images is that it has shades of Andy Warhol in it.
